Two small studies about childhood wonder Poetry illustrations for 'Spring Magpie,' by Deirdre Foster. See the third slide to read her brilliant poem. I think we are all ready for spring here in Dublin after the long winter! Sketching straight onto the manuscript for Coastal Resort, a new collection of poems by Deirdre Foster. Just some initial ideas here working from the poems onto the page and drawing from my head. A lot more observational work to go on these but I quite like the surreal quality of the drawings. The last few days I've been doing a lot of pen and ink drawings. Sometimes it's been from memory, others from observation or a photograph: anything goes. Always it's a process I enjoy which reminds me why I always turn to drawing when I'm in a funk. Experimental layout for illustration for poem 'Retirement,' from Dierdre Foster's new collection of poems Coastal Resort. I'm quite happy with the concept of certain aspects here, such as the enlarged pins in the sea and the figure in the foreground but I think I'll play with different compositions. Maybe the figure would be better on a bench? A viaduct could be exchanged for a pier? I will be working with my mum on her next collection of poems 🥰 after the success of 'Putting the Boat to Bed,' (published by Northumberland Press) we are hoping this will come together nicely!
